Winton Coaching

Auckland running coaching

Everyone has a unique ability, running history, lifestyle and body. Even when you have a programme that works for you, it can be useful to have someone to give you a few tips and adjust the programme as you work towards your goal. Training with a group is also a big help.

Coaching and group sessions

$60 per week.

So many things have to go right, to get the best out of yourself on race day. Adapting the programme correctly when things change is crucial to a good outcome. It’s also important to nail the nutrition, stretching, fluid intake and recovery. I am available to talk on the phone throughout the week and at the weekly training sessions.

Training sessions.

On weekdays, I will hold two training sessions and every other week we will go for a long run. All athletes I coach can attend any one, or all, of these sessions to get the benefit of training with other people and get feedback on their session from me. The two sessions will be during the week outside of work hours. The long run will be in a variety of locations throughout Auckland and will be an opportunity to check out some fantastic running routes and trails.

Training progammes

$250 one off fee.

Feel free to give me a no obligation phone call if you have any questions about my coaching and training programmes. This is the process for a training programme:

1.  Email or call me and I will send you a questionnaire.

2.  We then arrange an in-person meeting or phone call. This is an opportunity to get more detail about your background and clearly define your goal.

3.   I will then write a training programme tailored to you and your goal.

4.   After a few days, we arrange a second discussion where I will talk with you about the programme and answer any questions you may have. This is an opportunity to explain the purpose for each session and my general philosophy to running. This is involves getting the right blend of strength, stamina, speed, aerobic fitness, anaerobic fitness and improving your lactic threshold.

Testimonials

 Brenton Vannisselroy

I had no idea what I was doing with my running training before I sought advice from Scotty. He created an easy to follow programme that helped me reach my half marathon goals. I have since adapted his plan for numerous races, including a couple of marathons. Scotty was also a great help as I managed injuries and he taught me a number of stretches I still use today. I couldn't have asked for a better coach.

Natalie Seay:

Scott and I became friends through the Pakuranga Athletics club, so I knew of his outstanding running talent. So when I decided I needed a running coach, I approached Scott and asked if he would coach me and he agreed to take me on .

Scott is able to work my training around my busy lifestyle and the fact I do quite I few events each year. He is able to tell me which events I should make my key events and which ones to use as a training day. He is able to update my programme when necessary if  circumstances change.

What impresses me most about Scott is his commitment to the key sessions that he puts in my programme. As long as these sessions are achieved, the rest of the weeks training is just about keeping the legs ticking over. I know that these key sessions are the reason I got to  achieve my goal last year of running a sub 330 marathon. I’ve been trying to run a sub 330 marathon  time for 6 years and finally with  Scott’s coaching techniques and patience I was able to achieve that goal.

I highly recommend Scott as a coach to anyone of any running ability. Thanks coach couldn’t have done it without you.

Joe Piggin - 2008 Marathon National Champion

Scott provided me with invaluable mentorship leading up to the New Zealand marathon championships. Drawing on his years of experience of high-performance training and racing, I honed my training regime under his watchful eye, which ultimately led to winning the national title.
Scott's approach to coaching is informed by science. He combines the scientific method with considering and adapting to each athlete's unique situation. Understanding individual nuances is so important to success, and this is Scott's way. It's easy for anyone to over-train or under-train, but Scott's appreciation of each athlete's situation ensures the greatest likelihood of success. Scott's a  "people person" too, which makes for insightful discussions that often include a good dose of in-depth training analysis, race tactics, and linking this in with holistic wellbeing.
